What's new in Forge

Forge launched on 23 September 2026 and changes every week. Here is everything that matters to you since then, newest first, one sentence each. Every change is already live: just open Forge.

Hair that swings, a start screen, and Unity

  • New Forge opens on a start screen with your recent projects, each shown with a picture of its last view. Docs
  • New Templates open in one click on a bundled sample model, so you can see the result before choosing your own file. Docs
  • New Hair Guides gives a character's hair its own bones: draw a curve through each clump and it becomes a chain of joints. Docs
  • New Hair Physics makes that hair swing through every animation, keeps it out of the body, and bakes the motion into the exported file. Docs
  • New Character Seams cuts a character's UV seams at its joints, so the face, body and every limb unwrap as clean, separate islands. Docs
  • Improved The Character template now opens on a sample elf with moving hair, ready to swap for your own model. Docs
  • New Engine Output sends a mesh or a fully animated character straight into an open Unity project as a prefab (Forge Bridge for Unity, early access). Docs
  • New Clean Color Edges turns the wavy, speckled borders between colors on an AI-generated texture into clean lines. Docs
  • New Remove Color removes a color you pick, such as the black slivers an AI model paints into creases, and fills it from the colors around it. Docs
  • Improved Bake fills in the parts of a model the original texture never showed, instead of painting them black. Docs
  • Improved Auto Unwrap follows the seams you give it, lays each seam region out as one island, and cooks about three times faster with seams. Docs
  • Improved Auto Rig gains a neck base marker, lets you check the markers from the side, and keeps joints inside the body under long hair or a cape. Docs
  • Fixed The Idle, Walk and Jog animations play smoothly, with no more twitch in the spine. Docs
  • Improved Remesh repairs a broken, non-manifold model instead of refusing it. Docs
  • Improved The curve editor box-selects points in any view, Ctrl+A selects them all, and freehand strokes come out smoother with fewer points. Docs
  • Improved Each node's viewport tools sit in a bar along the bottom of the viewport, and a hint panel lights up the shortcut you are using.

Bend Along Curve and smaller polish

  • Improved Bend Along Curve has a Rigid mode that places pieces along the curve without bending them, and merges tight turns into one clean corner. Docs
  • Improved Separate Pieces can keep a range of pieces, or every piece except them. Docs
  • Improved Import reloads its linked file on its own when you reopen a project, as long as the browser still allows it. Docs
  • Improved Bake's Max distance is shown in centimeters. Docs
  • Fixed Number fields keep a minus sign you type instead of resetting to zero.

Characters: rigged and animated

  • New Auto Rig gives a static character a Mixamo-compatible skeleton and skin weights from nine markers you drag onto it, with optional fingers. Docs
  • New The Rig view shows the skeleton and how far each bone reaches, and plays a test motion so you can see how the character bends. Docs
  • New Add Animation adds ready-made Idle, Walk and Jog clips, free to use in any game, so the exported .glb already moves. Docs
  • New The Character template turns a character model into a rigged, animated .glb in one graph. Docs
  • New File ▸ New from Template starts a project from a ready-made workflow: AI mesh cleanup, Merge Parts and Clean & Repack. Docs
  • New Game-Ready Mesh does the whole cleanup of an AI-generated or scanned model in one node: repair, reduce, unwrap and bake. Docs
  • New Clean, Fill Holes and Normals repair a broken model: weld cracks, remove fragments, cap holes and fix inside-out faces. Docs
  • New Auto Unwrap gives organic models clean UVs with very little stretching. Docs
  • New Pack UVs repacks a model's existing UV islands neatly into the texture without unwrapping it again. Docs
  • New Separate Pieces splits a mesh into its loose pieces, can push them apart, or keeps just one. Docs
  • New Bend Along Curve repeats a piece along a curve and bends it to follow, with mitred corners: fences, rails, pipes, trim. Docs
  • New Unreal Engine Output sends a mesh straight into a running Unreal Editor (Forge Bridge plugin, early access). Docs
  • New Paint Fill can paint a picture onto a model, with controls to match its colors to the rest of the texture. Docs
  • New Skip a node from its right-click menu to pass its input straight through without cooking it.
  • Improved Polyreduce reduces to a triangle count you choose, and Transform's Fit size scales a model to a real-world height. Docs
  • New The UV Editor pane shows a mesh's UVs over its texture or a checker.
  • New The node graph, viewport and parameters are dockable panes you can float, tab or pop out onto a second monitor, and save as layouts.
  • New Click the pieces of a merged model in the viewport to select and move them; Shift selects several, Alt-drag duplicates, Delete removes.
  • New Grid, rotate and scale snapping work on every gizmo in the viewport.
  • New Drop a .glb onto the Import node, and watch a progress panel follow the load; huge models import several times faster. Docs
  • New Help ▸ Documentation (F1) opens these docs inside Forge, and every node has a help button and a hover card.
  • Improved A refreshed node graph: color-coded node families, snap to grid, top-to-bottom flow, and inline comments.
  • Improved Sweep is now Extrude Along Curve and PolyExtrude is now Extrude Faces, named for what they do. Docs
  • New Theme presets (Forge, Muted, Neutral), a UI size slider for high-resolution screens, Duplicate Project, and reset-to-default on every parameter.
  • New Sign in with Google for an optional cloud backup of your projects (invite-only for now).

Forge launches

  • New Forge is live at forge.technicallyartist.com: free, in the browser, with nothing to install and no account needed.
  • New The Forge docs site launches at docs.forge.technicallyartist.com. Docs
  • New Export writes a .glb straight into your game project, and writes it again in place each time you export. Docs
  • New Import keeps a link to its source file, so Reload picks up changes you made in another tool. Docs
  • Improved Imported models keep their materials, textures and extra data, and you can paint over and bake from their textures. Docs
  • Improved Bevel and Polyreduce keep a model's UVs and materials.
